When in the 8th grade, I became interested in photography while doing odd jobs for a professional photographer in my neighborhood. I suppose that with no "formal" training I am considered self-taught, but life experiences, interactions and classes with many people has lead me to this point with my art. I have received diverse insight from classes in Fine Woodworking at the College of The Redwoods in Ft Bragg California, drawing at Lane Community College in Florence Oregon, as well as experiences at sea as a marine engineer. I spent a year as a member of a round table group led by photographer Cherie Hiser in Portland Oregon, and have attended the workshop "Sight and Insight" by John Wimberley.
My travels have taken me to Attu Island at the end of the Aleutian Chain, The Bering Sea, Prince William Sound, Southeast Alaska, Mexico, as well as Oregon and Washington.
The wildlife throughout the Pacific Northwest provides much of my subject matter, but I also have an affinity for ships and trains and all things heavy. I am fascinated by the interaction of nature and the industrial.
Most recently I photographed Great White Sharks off Guadalupe Island Mexico.
